Amor Gitano
"Amor Gitano" (Gypsy Love) is the theme song for the telenovela Zorro: La Espada y la Rosa, performed in Spanish by Beyoncé Knowles and Alejandro Fernández . The song was featured on Beyoncé's two albums, "B'Day Deluxe Edition" and "Irreemplazable", and on Alejandro Fernández's album, "Viento A Favor." The single was sold mainly in markets with a strong latin demographic, such as Mexico. In Mexico, the single has reached number thirty-eight on the Official Singles Chart, and number-five on the Digital Sales Chart in late April 2007.
Sony commissioned the flamenco-pop track for the Zorro series. According to the label's translation, Fernández sings, "I'm your gypsy, your pilgrim. I'm your thief, I'm going to love you even if they tear my heart out."
Grammy winner Rudy Pérez produced the track, which appeared on both performers' albums. Jaime Flores, Reyli Barba and Beyoncé Knowles are listed as songwriters. The track was recorded at the Rock the Mic Studios in New York in January, 2007, shortly before Zorro's Telemundo premiere.
In Spain, the song was certified 7x Platinum (140,000 copies) for downloads and 14x Platinum (280,000 copies) for ringtone sales. The song is currently at number one in Spanish downloads chart. The song has spent 13 weeks on top of the Spanish singles chart. It's the Beyoncé's second number-one hit in the Spanish Download chart (the first was Beautiful Liar) as well as her first Spanish language number-one hit.
